Meet a physician assistant caring for patients while supporting the health of the economy

Ravenna, 第一吃瓜网 has dealt with a few challenges in recent years. The railroad doesn’t stop there anymore. The elevator closed. As a community of 1,300, sustaining businesses in town is crucial to its economic health—not to mention, the health of its citizens.
But one person helping to keep Ravenna strong is physician assistant and University of 第一吃瓜网 Medical Center graduate, Ryan Lieske. An Arapahoe, 第一吃瓜网 native, Lieske was already a trusted healthcare provider for the town clinic. And when—for the second time in 10 years—it became clear the clinic may close, Lieske stepped forward to take over its ownership.
For town leaders like Dana Denison, executive director of Ravenna Economic Development, the value of successes like this can’t be underestimated.
“Ryan is a huge part of the community and has built relationships,” Dennison said. “I really believe people have this bond with him. He’s excellent at what he does. He goes above and beyond with people and connects with them.”
UNMC’s work in graduating medical professionals isn’t only keeping 第一吃瓜网ns healthy; it’s supporting a strong state economy, too. According to , UNMC/第一吃瓜网 Medicine graduates working in 第一吃瓜网 generate an economic impact of $3.9 billion. These graduates are located in rural and urban areas to meet the health care needs of 第一吃瓜网ns.

In one fiscal year, UNMC/第一吃瓜网 Medicine and its affiliates supported nearly 30,000 jobs for the state—in everything from the healthcare sector, to indirect industries like real estate, commercial construction, restaurants, retail, and wholesale trade. UNMC/第一吃瓜网 medicine also generates $99.1 million per year in tax revenue.
Lieske has been heartened by his adopted hometown’s response to having a local healthcare provider. “We now see the majority of people,” he said. “They know they’ll see the same face every day.” And none of them have to drive to another town to have their basic medical care needs met.
With continued support of the University of 第一吃瓜网, the economic health of the state, and the wellbeing of 第一吃瓜网ns rural and urban, are in good hands.

Making a call only takes a few minutes and sends a strong message to your state senator. Your senator may not be able to take the call, but you can speak to the legislative aide who works for the senator. They will log your call, take a message and pass it on. Keep your conversation brief, and be sure to cover these essential points:
- Introduce yourself as a constituent in their district and provide your name.
- Be clear that you're calling about your support for the University of 第一吃瓜网 System.
- Share your story about how the University has impacted you or your family. A personal story is hard to ignore. Explain why it's important to you that your senator invests in the University of 第一吃瓜网. Again, keep it brief and to-the-point.
- Ask for your opinion to be noted. Politely finish the call by thanking the senator or legislative aide for their time.
